WILL TAKE ROUND WITH HIM OF E/R, S/G ROOM, EMCY GEN ROOM ETC. WILL ASK HIM QUESTIONS AS MANY AS POSSIBLE ABT M/E, A/E, BOILER ETC. DURING ROUND. STATUS OF SPARES, CRITICAL SPARES, ENG STORES, ANY IMPORTANT JOB WHICH HAS BEEN DONE RECENTLY OR TO BE DONE IMMIDIATELY. WILL ASK AST LSA,FFA & THEIR LOCATIONS, ENGINE ROOM PAPER WORK/ MONTH ENDPAPERS, LOCATION OF FILES (WORK DONE REPORTS, RISK ASSESSMENTS, ETC.)

WHAT IS PURPOSE OF ISM? HOW IS IT USEFUL ONBOARD SHIP?                                                                     (TO PROVIDE AN INTL STANDARD FOR SAFE MGMT & OPERATION OF SHIPS AND FOR POLLUTION PREVENTION. SOLAS CHAPTER 9 OUTLINED ISM PROCEDURES. OBJECTIVES ARE TO ENSURE SAFETY @ SEA, PREVENTION OF HUMAN INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE AND AVOIDANCE OF DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REQUIREMENT OF SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.

(SUPPLY TO STATOR        MAGNETIC FLUX IN STATOR         FLUX CUTS ROTOR          CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH ROTOR (DUE TO FARADAY’S LAW OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION)               FLUX GENERATES IN ROTOR           TWO FLUXES PRODUCES A TORQUE            ROTOR ROTATES)

HOW IS A RUDDER FIXED/BALANCED ON ITS PLACE?                                                                                                 (I EXPLAINED RUDDER CARRIER, BEARINGS, TOP & BOTTOM CONNECTIONS, PINTLE, ETC.)

HOW WILL YOU CARRY OUT A BOILER SURVEY/INSPECTION (especially SMOKE/BURNER SIDE)?                         (I STARTED WITH RISK ASSESSMENTS, MEETING WITH ALL PERSONNELS INVOLVED, VENTILATION, ENCLOSED SPACE ENTRY PERMIT, ETC.)

EXPLAIN A FIXED FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM ONBOARD YOUR LAST SHIP? WHAT SAFETIES WERE INCORPORATED ON THAT SYSTEM? WHAT REGULAR MAINTENANCE DO YOU CARRY OUT?                                     (I EXPLAINED CO2 SYSTEM. I DREW CO2 FIXED FIRE SYSTEM SHOWING RELIEF VALVE, MASTER VALVE ETC.)
